What is appropriate golf attire
Golf, like any other sport, has specific dress norms. This usually requires the golfer to go along to a golfing accessory or outfitters so they can be sure to obtain the correct attire. Each golf course may differ on it's expectations from golfers so it is best to know what these are in advance. It is to be noted that several golf courses would bar you from playing unless you are properly attired. Can you imaging the embarrassment of being turned away just because you weren't wearing the right clothes.
Several things about men and boys are unwelcome on the golf course. The two most universal are concerned with shirts - any shirt worn by a player must have a collar and sleeves. The next things, which are not allowed, are wearing of jogging pants or shoes with metal spikes. Avoid wearing clothes with repulsive logos or obscene messages on them. Moreover, sporting jeans or sandals are prohibited and this applies to women too.
The most proper men's attire on the golf course happens to be collared shirts, the right pair of pants or shorts and golf or athletic shoes. Golf shoes must only have the soft spikes fitted because if a golfer wears shoes with metal spikes the will be asked to leave as they make extra work for the groundsman with the damage the bring. When wearing a shirt, both long and short sleeved are permitted and if required a sweater that can be of the pullover variety or a turtle neck. The trend in wearing trainer socks has not be taken up by the golfing fraternity so socks should be of regular length and preferably plain.
For women playing golf, fitting shirts and skirts and even Capri's are allowed. Jeans, shorts or otherwise are not allowed neither are full length pants either. For women, the length of the skirt or short is important and they ought to be cautious that these do not go up more than 5 inches above the knee. Although it not uncommon for a golf course to insist that the length of shorts and shirts is even longer. Women are also supposed to wear shirts with collars unless they have put on a pullover with a V-style neck design.
Sleeveless shirts are allowed for women but they must have collars or they should wear shirts with either long or short sleeves. Their socks must be ankle length with proper golf shoes (or sports) and if they wish a hat or visor if they prefer. Socks must be a solid color, with minimal logos and tasteful designs. Another important to remember is that any accompanying person to the golf course should also follow the same dress rules. Since the dress code varies from one golf course to another, the wisest thing to do is to check their website or contact them to know what is allowed and what is barred.
