Gift for bird watchers

So, why is ornithology considered a great pastime? When you know a person who loves to do this, present him or her with something they can use which matches his area of interest. Simply watch the items bird watchers take with them when they venture into the woods.

Probably the most affordable and easiest to get is a hat. Not only would this gift can help prevent the glare of the sun and protect them from its rays. One idea is to good is too find a pair of 'combat' pants which has many pockets because they can hold many items conveniently.

A bird watching vest is another item which has more areas to store items than a pair of combat pants. Instead of retrieving things from the back pack, they can use the pockets to keep everything they need for the day. If you know their back pack is already worn out, perhaps you get can them a new one. There are plenty of sizes available in backpacks; a heavy duty one is not really required since these people should be traveling light.

Binoculars are perhaps the costliest, but the most appreciated, gift you can give to a bird watcher. The cost of the lens, which allows the viewer to see birds at greater distances, makes it an expensive option. Some models are very 'high tech' and allow image capture and the use of specialist lenses that allow night-vision use. A bird watching journal is also a nice gift to get because most ornithologists record what bird species they have seen and how many there were.

Alternatively you could also gift them an annual subscription to a bird watching journal. What do you get in these magazines? Those who can spare some cash can even send the person off on a bird watching vacation perhaps up north in Canada or down to South America. Of the many thousands of species of birds, only a fraction of these are indigenous to the US, many never visit the continent at all.

Well, you have to talk to the person first and see what they don't have or where they have never visited. If you have a small talk it can give you many options. Who knows, you might find that all this research on a present has wetted your appetite to start bird watching as well. Instead of only encouraging them from a distance, you could be part of their community!
